AD500
Simon Young
A travellers’ guide to the British Isles in AD 500. It contains fictionalised account of the lives of the saints, what to see, what to avoid and how to avoid being killed. The point of view is that of a Byzantine Roman who sees the British as a backward people. Strange tales of nipple sucking in Ireland and the boredom of being dragged round the Arthur sites in Cornwall. A different version of the Loch Ness monster story

This big book depicts a Babylonian diplomat writing about Britain after the retreat of the Romans. A work of fiction based on what historians know about Britain and on historical facts. An amusing book, in parts. The description about self-protection via gifts and nipple sucking provoked much laughter.
