The Wishbones
Tom Perrota
This book is all about playing in a wedding band in New jersey in
the 1990s - a must for anyone who has ever played in a band as it
is a very accurate portrayal. It was a fun book and managed to
avoid all the pitfalls of being crass about weddings etc.
Seán and Doreen would both like to borrow this one.

Seán really enjoyed this book, originally recommended by
Andrew. An easy read which he got through in 24 hours. Good
characters and good observation of the etiquette of weddings.
Recommended.

The Wishbones are an American wedding band. Weddings in the USA
and UK are very similar - at least from the perspective of the
band. An easy read. Features a 30 year old guitar player who
still lives at home and has no time for anything but music. He
proposes to his girlfriend almost by accident.
Andrew commented that this book describes a subculture, i.e.
semi-professional musicians, that seldom gets written about. Gill
found some of the book all too familiar...

The author is a sort of American Nick Hornby. It's very easy to
read, light and self deprecating. The book's about a band which
plays at weddings and the like. Very funny.

Bob and Andrew had both liked this book but Doreen didn't and
pronounced it a 'boy's book'. The story centers on a youngish
man, playing in a wedding band, who gets engaged to his long-term
girlfriend and then panics and has a fling with another women.
Lots of stuff about music - could equally have been about
football, darts, railways or any other diversionary activity.
Doreen had no patience with this book. A lad's book and not
nearly as funny as Nick Hornby.
