Northern Lights
Philip Pulman
A book written for children, although for a slightly older group
than J K Rowling's, and read by adults too. Serious ideas are
discussed within a good story. Very imaginative but rather hard
compared to the Harry Potter series.

Andrew thought this was rubbish. He hates fantasy
novels and this book did not pass the 100 page test. (The
Whitbread judges didn't share Andrew's views).

Caroline read this despite feeling very ill. She loved it and is
saving up for the next 2 books.
