Things Can Only Get Better

John O'Farrell

Written by a Labour supporter about the last 25 years. Quite fun, a jolly little book , enjoyed it. Andrew had also read it. Written in the post “Fever Pitch” style-conversational and chummy. Descibed the sheer awfulness of local politics. Gill and Andrew both recommended it.

Very enjoyable but horribly familiar from Doreen's time being active in the (then) Ecology Party. The author captures the feel of the time very well, it's all very funny and he comes across as a nice chap. Considering what he witnessed first hand, it must have been very tempting to dish dirt and tell tales but it's to his credit that he resists this.

The author was a member of the Labour Party during the Thatcher years and has produced a very funny account of what it was like. He is very honest about his ignorance of various political issues at the time. Jean loved it.

A quick read. Bob is the same age as the author and found the descriptions of university life and politics very familiar. The writer, who has also written for Spitting Image and other comedies, is very funny. Recommended.

Caroline thoroughly enjoyed this and found it very funny in places - highly recommended.

A mixture of funny and wry observations and frankly depressing memories of all those years in the 1980s and 1990s when Thatcher was in power and it seemed that no-one could do anything about it.

Doreen liked this book a lot but found it quite painful because of the memories that it evokes of a bad political time in England.
