An autobiography of the Jewish author, a very sad tale shaped by the suicide of his mother when he was twelve. Oz came from an education obsessed patriarchy, brought up in an environment of talking and arguing. His father was a librarian who spent his life feeling frustrated that he was not as educated as his brother.
