A Bend In The River

V S Naipaul

Written in 1979 about post-colonial Africa in the late 1960s. Written from the point of view of a Muslim Indian settled on the East coast who has set up a business in the Congo. The Country is on the verge of going into meltdown and the book is therefore pessimistic, set against a background of petty tribal wars. Gill didn't like the main character, mostly because of his misogyny. A well-written book though.
