Tulip Fever

Deborah Moggach

This book was a “walloping good story” and a real page turner. It deals with the speculative fever that surrounded tulip growing in Holland in the 17th century. She said that the book has a rather strange plot but was steeped in atmosphere and hysteria. Doreen particularly liked the unexpected prints that were included in the book, and thought that these were a real bonus considering the price.

Jean enjoyed this and found it very interesting, though there were maybe too many twists & turns in the plot. Set in 17th Century Amsterdam, at the height of the tulip boom. The book also includes colour plates of various Dutch paintings of the era that Jean found useful & welcome in helping her to visualise the time in which the book is set.

The book is set in Amsterdam at the height of tulip fever. I read this at tulip time and woke up to a tulip in our bedroom. I enjoyed it. There's a lovely bit of mistaken identity around which the whole plot revolves. A good yarn. The pictures didn't really interest me. I'd forgotten about them. (Jean and Doreen loved them)
