The story of an ordinary working man, a printer who gets involved in union action in the late 1970s as technology threatens his livelihood. It then follows him through the 80s and 90s to a sad conclusion. The author seems misogynistic. Bob enjoyed reading this but he felt that it was a rather transparent attempt to use the characters as vehicles for the wrongs done to the working classes by Margaret Thatcher.
