A House Unlocked
Penelope Lively
This is not fiction - more social history. It is based on the
author's grandmother's house, each chapter relating to the house
or the garden in some way. There is a short bibliography. The
writing is very skilful and a pleasure to read - not to rush
through.

This is about the writer's grandmother's house. Penelope Lively
uses objects in the house as a jumping off point to talk about
lots of things, but mostly about how much has changed in England
since WWI. Well written, interesting. Recommended

Thoroughly enjoyed this. It's not a standard biography. It's about the time she grew up. She goes from room to room in her mind and this sparks off memories. It's very good indeed.

This is a kind of biography of a house. It becomes the jumping-off point for the author's own reminiscence and to discuss the way people live.
