Kapuscinski is a Polish journalist. This book is a collection of travel pieces, including lots of writing from war zones. Doreen had enjoyed another book of his The Shadow of the Sun (reviewed Sept 2004). She felt however that there was too much of the author and his judgements in this book, although that might partly be a problem of translation.
