The History of Love
Nicole Krauss
Bob wasn’t sure what to make of this book. Its background is the Jewish diaspora but there are no harrowing details. The main character is the only survivor from his family. It’s a sad melancholy book. Bob found the format of the book a bit irritating –it has several different narrators, some in the first person, some diary excerpts and some book excerpts. Towards the end of the book some pages have just one paragraph. Bob enjoyed some of the narrators more than the others. Sort of recommended.

This book looks back after the holocaust, but doesn't dwell on it. Doreen got muddled about who was speaking when the voice changed, as it often did – the exact opposite of a John Irving novel. The book was confusing.
However, she did enjoy it once – about half-way though – she felt she knew what was going on.
