Between Extremes
Brian Keenan and John McCarthy
Between Extremes by Brian Keenan and John McCarthy
This is about the pair's travels together through Chile and is
written in alternating author style. The two men are quite
different. It seemed that, if they had not been hostages
together, they would not have become friends. Gill preferred
Brian Keenan's style, although he seemed not to want to be there
at times, e.g. at the house of Pablo Neruda. Recommended,
however.

While they were in captivity, they decided that that it would be a good idea to raise yaks in Chile. This book is about the trip they take the length of Chile. It's a fairly flimsy hook to hang a book from. The two men are quite different. McCarthy is very organised and plans ahead, Keenan spends most of his time asleep or reading Pablo Neruda and his journey is an internal one. The book's all right but Andrew did wonder why they did it.
