Pigs in Heaven
Barbara Kingsolver
I really enjoyed this. She's brilliant at dialogue. It's about a
woman who adopts an abandoned child. The book deals with the
issue of the Cherokee Indian in modern society and about them
losing their children when they are adopted by white families. It
has a great ending.
Caroline enjoyed it but hated the ending where she could see
the hand of the author.

The follow up to The Bean Trees, a very good book. Unfortunately
this book reads as if someone had "got at" the author after the
earlier book and said "you can't do that", so she felt that she
had to make amends, and this unsatisfactory book is the result.
It starts with a ridiculous coincidence, and ends improbably
and unbelievably with a ridiculous happy-ever-after plot
twist.
Cods-wallop, whatever that is. (Most probably, according to
the internet, week gassy beer).
