A Long Way Down
Nick Hornby
About four people who all separately, plan to kill themselves by jumping off a tall building on New Year’s Eve. They are surprised to meet the others up there. The book goes downhill from this point, as though Barnes wasn’t sure what to do with the characters. Some good bits – the characters are interesting and the dialogue good, particularly that of the 17 year old girl.

Bob is NH fan, but this was a big disappointment, a book too far. Worst so far. Four strangers go to commit suicide. Not happy ever after, but could be worse. Some of the characters are not convincing.

I'm a Nick Hornby fan but this is his worst book by some distance. His heart isn't really in it. It's like a creative writing exercise. Take a group of people, now take them on holiday, now take then clubbing-what will they do? It is funny. I found the dropping in of his latest musical enthusiasm annoying.
