The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time
Mark Haddon
A very good story written from the point of view of an autistic
boy. Funny but heartbreaking. Strongly recommended.

Written from the viewpoint of Christopher, a teenage maths genius
with Asperger's syndrome. Extremely good, and also funny, in
spite of the fact that Christopher can't understand humour. Two
versions of the book have been published, one for adults and one
for children (Haddon is a children's author). Much of the book is
about his parents' inability to deal with him. Highly
recommended. Rory had also read this but hadn't found it funny.
Very well written and optimistic. Interesting to see how well
Christopher could function in spite of his disability. Rory's
website [www.rorysjava.intelynx.net] has a program that
demonstrates the Monty Hall problem (a maths problems included in
the book).

There are two editions of this book by the prize-winning author:
one for children and one for adults with slight variations in
text and cover. It is a moving, painful and sometimes funny story
of an autistic child who had a horror of being touched. It
provoked a lively discussion in the group.

Very well described, very believable. Enjoyable though sad. The
sentences are very comfortable, they read well.

Seán liked this book. It's a whodunnit from the point of
view of a very intelligent but autistic teenager: much of what
goes on around is completely inexplicable to him. A very
interesting read.
Recommended.
