The Siege
Helen Dunmore
Another grim read about the siege of Leningrad during WW2 told by
a young woman. I read this tale of winter cold and starvation in
the garden on one of the hottest days of the year - a rather odd
experience. Well written, affecting and definitely recommended.

About the siege of Leningrad (at the end of the Second World
War), about which Jean knew nothing. A very grim tale of extreme
measures needed for survival in almost unbelievably dire
circumstances. Highly recommended - excellent. Caroline also
mentioned and recommended this author's first book "Zennor In
Darkness"

This is about the siege of Leningrad. It is about what people do
under extreme stress and in extreme cold: excellent.

This is a novel about the siege of Leningrad. Andrew felt the
novel was overwhelmed by it's subject and that the narrative
wasn't strong enough. He didn't think the writing was very good,
that it was turgid, and that the issues centred on were
peripheral to the serious business of what was going on. He
thought he would prefer a more factual account.
