Now and Then

William Corlett

Now - a 50 year old gay man dealing with the death of his bullying, remote father and looking back. Since childhood he has not had a relationship, he is just about plausible but rather boring.

Then - the same man as a 15 year old at boarding school, having his one gay relationship.

A trauma "then" seems to have persisted in its effects on the man until "now", preventing him having any further relationships, but there seems to be a huge gap between 15 and 50 where apparently nothing at all happened in his life - it is hard to believe the traumatic events "then" would have lasted this long.

Still, the book was enjoyable and the schoolboy bit compellingly written and engaging.

Recommeded-ish, but don't expect too much.
