drank heavily and died young. The book gives a sense of "gruntlement" - happiness with the moment. Most American poetry Gavin had read was
incomprehensible. This is very easy to read, more like a diary. A book
for people who don't normally read poetry - easy to dip in to.

Very accessible and easy to read, a direct and beautifully simple celebration of being alive. Some of the poems seemed a bit dashed off but that could be the whole point of them.
