The Closed Circle

Jonathan Coe

A sequel to The Rotters' Club, which Andrew had been looking forward to. He did enjoy it - very much his era, it resonated for him. He strongly recommends this and The Rotters' Club and, importantly, reading them in the correct order.

This is the sequel to The Rotters' Club, and it's worse. Coe is a great writer but there are some really grating things. It's sprawling but it never really comes together (unlike What A Carve Up). He spells things out rather than let the reader work it out. He's usually funny but not in this book.
