How to be a Birdwatcher
Simon Barnes
The theme of the book was to enjoy and wonder about birds, but not to get hung up. Gill's definitely not a twitcher...

The author is a sportswriter for The Times, he has always been interested in birds. He says anyone can be a birdwatcher. Binoculars help because they bring the birds closer. He gives useful little tips and tricks to help spot. There is also an eco-warrior feel to the book. He is very concerned about the loss of habitat and believes if we all became more interested in birds, we'd all want to save the planet
Doreen had also read this book. As well as being a manual, it's an affectionate tribute to the author's father. There are several references to Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem "The Windhover".
