The Da Vinci Code

Dan Brown

Rory read this whilst on holiday because Doreen was sent a free copy by QPD (Quality Paperbacks Direct). It has ropy dialogue and exposition thinly disguised as dialogue. The book has an intellectual veneer in that it contains puzzles; most of which Rory was able to solve easily. Most of the characters were caricatures including Mary Magdalene. In this book she was married to Jesus and part of the book concerns itself with whether they had children and what would have happened to that bloodline, if it ever existed. It wasn't bad as a holiday read but probably not up to the literary standards expected by this group.

As Doreen expected, utter tripe, even if hundreds of thousands of other people disagree. Doreen likes thrillers but couldn't even enjoy this book as a thriller as it wasn't very good on this level either. Very badly written with atrocious dialogue. Doreen doesn't understand its popularity. Don't read it!
