Skellig
David Almond
This is an award-winning children's book. A boy finds a strange
man in old garage: he appears to be an angel. The boy is linked
with the girl next door, who doesn't go to school. The boy's
mother gives birth to a girl who may not survive and this affects
him deeply. The angel seems to get involved. A lovely story.

The author was realistically able to enter into the world of a
child in this very moving, well done and convincing children's
book which ought to be read by adults. Jean commented that
children's books weren't only for children and could be usefully
read by grownups.

Wonderful. I loved this book. It's written for children but
adults can read it too (long digression for discussion of
"crossover fiction")

An excellent children's book for adults. It's about a boy and his
family who move to a new house, full of great hopes and plans.
The boy, Michael, finds a thing, called "Skellig", in the garage.
But who or what Skellig is never emerges.
Recommended.

Andrew liked its fantastical story about finding
a presence in the old garage. It is well written and economical.
It can mean what you want it to.

Gill had high expectations of this book as other members of the
group had rated it very highly. Gill had problems with the idea
of an angel in the garage. She was disappointed with the book and
struggled to get through it.
